Happy New Year Nobles and your Ladies. Thank you for your faith and trust by electing me to fill the position of Potentate for the ensuing year. I will do my very best to bring our Shrine back to make us a great organization to belong to. We can do it, we just need to pull together again and work hard together.
Well, here we go, a new Sphinx Shriners year. We have many exciting projects planned for this year. I plan to visit each and every Unit and Club many times this year to fill you in on these projects. One project for this year is a major overhaul of our Shrine building and surroundings. This will require many hands to help accomplish, but the reward will be extremely satisfying. This renovation will enable us to start renting our building to make us self supporting once again.
It appears that a better part of our membership preferred to receive the Booster and other information electronically based on the returns from the fact sheet placed in your dues notice this year. This is great! Information can now be delivered to all who signed up in a timely fashion. It’s not too late to sign up. Just call the Temple and give us your email address. It’s that simple.
Town Hall meetings coming this year. This also gives an opportunity to ask questions or suggest ideas back to the Board of Directors. The plan is to hold all the Divan/Board of Directors meeting in the large room where we hold our monthly meetings. The Divan will conduct their meeting with all Nobles, with a current 2009 dues card, in attendance observing. At the end of the meeting, the floor will be opened up to any Noble to ask questions, make suggestions or just make a comment about Shrine related subjects only. You will be allowed 3 minutes to speak with no second time that night, so plan your time carefully. No, back and forth comments will be made between the speaker and the Divan. All questions or requests will be answered by the Divan at the next meeting. The meetings are held the second Tuesday each month. Voting will only occur at our regular monthly meetings. Please come and find out how our Shrine works.
Open door policy is the position for this year by the Potentate. Look for my contact numbers and address. I plan to be at the Shrine office every day, generally in the mornings, if you are in the area stop by even if just to say hi.
Lets’ have a great year. Get involved. We have many activities this year. Be a part of making them happen. Ask not what the Shrine can do for you; ask what you can do for your Shrine.
